What will your people do when the network goes down?

It's funny to see that internet has been a primary need for us to sustain a normal life. Deep down in my heart, although I also laughed, I think this video has some percentage of truth being told.

Separate and Merge multiple PSDs, keeping large file easy to manage

Webdesign Graphic Design    04 Jan 10    30 comments

Once a while, your PSD can be very large in size. Sometimes, it's inevitable due to size of the project. Then we are kind of in a dillema. In one hand, you want to keep everything in one place, so that any change can be shown in all layers. In the other hand, one large PSD can be intimidatingly slow.

One of my favorite trick is to split the PSDs to several files, and accessing them separately while designing, while keeping one main file of PSD that contains all the latest update of the layers.

To separate PSD, the easiest way is to

  • Delete all uneeded layers
  • Save that particular layer in another name

To combine PSD :

  • Open both files
  • select the layers/groups in the child you want to move to the main PSD, press CTRL for selecting multiple layers and group
  • and drag the selected layers to the main PSD
  • TIPS: use SHIFT while drag the layers to the main PSD, it will automatically center it and save you effort to position the layers

What's new here in Fleea?

Webdesign Unsorted    17 Dec 09    4004 comments

In the pas month I've been busy redesigning Fleea with new fresh look and interactive functionalities to make your able to browse through my portfolios easily

  • First change : No logo

My hubby always says that the logo is too big and take over big chunk of vertical space, so I remove it all together. But if you hover on left-top menu "Fleea', you'll see a flea icon. What do you think? Is that a good idea?

  • More interactive

If you have your javascript turned on, you'll see portfolios are able to sliding, by clicking, or keyboard arrow. But if you don't have your javascript turned on, you'll see just static pages.

  • Less portfolio

I've thrown away some old stuffs, more neat portfolios are coming this way.

  • Change framework

Well, it's a back-end stuff. But I use RIFE framework now. It totally separate design and development, even support bi-directional communication between template and server-side code. Super feature. I've tried to search PHP Framework with templating system as good as RIFE, but no luck. Help, anybody?

During my redesign time, suprisingly I spent the biggest chunk of time in visual design (around 40%-60%) because I changed the design 3 times. The development (both front-end and back-end is pretty simple and to the point.

I'm curious what do you want to say about this new site.
